Bon Children’s Home

History of Bon Children’s Home, Dolanji.

When a separate Tibetan Bonpo Settlement was established in Dolanji, H.P., Nothern India in 1967, the need for a new school was recognized.

The new school was built, which was only up to fifth grade, after which children had to join other school for their further education. The situation changed only in 1988 when H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama Visited sMenri in Dolanji and endorsed the wish of H.H.The 33rd sMenri Trizin Rinpoche, that all the Bon Children both boys and girls receive a Non-Monastic education in their own community and tradition – the schooling was upgraded to eight – grade level.

Latri Khenpo Geshe Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, as it was requested by the people of Dolanji and with blessing from H.H. sMenri Trizin Rinpoche, took this very important task to arrange facilities for children who come from far away to study. So, Latri Khenpo Geshe Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche founded the “Bon children’s Home” (BCH) in July 1988 in Dolanji, Northern India. It is a legitimate non -profit organization registered under the society registration act XXI, 1860. The BCH provides accommodation, food, education, health and the opportunity to study for the children of Bon community of Bhutan, India, Tibet and Himalayan region. In BCH children receive education in the environment where they can develop a deeper understanding of their culture and traditions .

Initially there were 45 children in the beginning, during that time all the children had to share one big mud House, which was divided into two blocks, one for girls and one for boys, with an attached kitchen. With the arrival of more and more children, the existing accommodation was becoming inadequate. So, with the support of Department of Education, Dharamsala, four new mud houses were built in 1991 at the current location, dormitory for boys, dormitory for girls with attached Ayahs’ and warden room, a small kitchen and a dining hall.

With tireless hard work of Rinpoche year after year, and dedication from the staff of BCH and support from different institutions and organizations, BCH has greatly developed comparing to the starting point many years back. Now we have separate boys dormitories attached with dispensary and a hospital room. There are also separate rooms for senior girls, small children. Not only that: we have recently inaugurated our new kitchen and dining hall for small children.

In the journey of 25 years, BCH has developed so much in each and every filed. Many children have acquired education under the support of BCH and are already serving in different roles to society and living a good life. i.e Tashi who has completed her four year course in B.Phamacy from Shoolini University this year and now works as Quality Assurance at Corona Remedied Pvt.Ltd Solan.

At the moment, we have around three hundred children studying under BCH, most of them are studying in CST Dolanji and there are also many students who are studying in different colleges and institutions all over India, such as Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, VARANASI, ST.Joseph’s College Bangalore, Delhi University,K.R. College of Nursing, BANGALORE, Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute DARJEELING, Ethiraj College for Women CHENNAI, Shoolini Institution Solan, Government P.G College Solan Indira Gandi National Open University CHANDIGARH.

With the Blessing of H.H 33rd sMenri Trizin Rinpoche, tireless effort of Latri Khenpo Gehse Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, hard work of BCH staff Members and support from different organizations and individuals, Bon Children’s Home  completed its journey of 25th year in July 1st, 2013.
